Verlin W. "Rip" Ashcraft

Services for Verlin W. "Rip" Ashcraft were Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Saint Jo, Texas, with Rev. Dwight Hawkins officiating.
Born March 23, 1908, at Gindale, Texas, Mr. Ashcraft died April 13, 1993, at his residence at Leon at the age of 85. He was the son of Frank M. and Hannah Solomon Ashcraft.
Mr. Ashcraft had lived in Leon most of his life and married Irene Ellis November 1, 1975, in Ardmore. He was a farmer and rancher and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Ashcraft was previously active in the Oddfellows Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Irene Ashcraft of the home at Leon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ashcraft and Joy and Buck Ward of Ardmore, and Gayle and Larry Hicks of Jimtown; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ashcraft was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
Interment in Perryman Cemetery, Forrestburg, Texas, was under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Keith Blankenship, Gerald Blankenship, Bryan Blankenship, Junior Hutchins, Carl Kanimaya, and Joel Hicks. Honorary bearers were Sonny Hartman, Larry Taliaferro, Clifford Harris, Raymond Adams, Otis McCommas, and Kenneth Stofel.
