Services for AnnaBelle Alexander, 95, of Marietta, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.
Mrs. Alexander was born February 5, 1906, in Marietta, Indian Territory, the daughter of Lelan and Ida Mae Peterman VanSant. She died Friday, June 29, at Lake Country Manor Nursing Home in Marietta.
Mrs. Alexander had been a resident of Love County all of her life. She and R.E. "Chick" Alexander were married in Madill on November 8, 1924, and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1967. Mrs. Alexander was employed at Hicks Cash Store for several years and also at Robertson's Hams in Marietta. A member of Marietta's First Baptist Church, she was devoted to her church, the WMU and teaching Sunday School. Mrs. Alexander devoted much of her time to the young people of Love County. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, and was in charge of ordering items for the Hospital Gift Shop.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Fletcher of Lafayette, Louisiana; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Quapaw and Betty VanSant Lofton of Seattle, Washington; and a grandson, Ted Fletcher of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mrs. Alexander was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret VanSant Hill and Edwina VanSant Burden; and three brothers, Henry VanSant, Bill VanSant and Leland "Stony" VanSant.
Pallbearers were Bud Hill, Rick Brannan, Rob Robertson, Dabney Smith Jr., Buddy Motsenbocker and Mike VanSant. Honorary pallbearer was Dr. J.T. O'Connor Jr.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
Martha's Note: I was privileged to visit on numerous occasions in Mrs. Alexander's Sunday School class. She took her Bible teaching very seriously and devoted a lot of time to preparing for her class.
