Early Sunday morning December 5, 2021, the world lost a beautiful soul who touched the lives of so many people, Rebecca Ann (Howard) Halstied at the age of 73 years old. Her journey in life began in Marietta, OK on March 21, 1948, the oldest child of Grace (Talley) Howard Allen and Beda Howard, Jr.
 
The Lord gave Rebecca the gift to play the piano at the early age of 10. She was baptized at the age of 12 under Rev. Hubert Harris at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rebecca also graced the church at the age of 12 with her ability to play the piano. She was a longtime area resident and graduate from the Marietta High School. Rebecca continued her education attaining her Associates Degree at Murray State College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central State University, a Master’s Degree from East Central University, and license from the Professional Counselor Licensing/Oklahoma State Department of Health and received title of LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). She worked for the Mental Health Services of Southern Oklahoma for 30 years and upon her retirement, they asked her to return as a Self-Employed Contracted Counselor.
 
Rebecca married the love of her life Perry Halstied on January 2, 1976 in Marietta. She was blessed with two children and eight stepchildren. Rebecca was a faithful member and musician for the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 35 years. She provided music for many community members’ funerals, the Love County Community Choir, and many other community programs. Rebecca was blessed with the ability to teach chords and keys. She always sang praises to God for the ability he granted her to endure with a generous heart.
 
Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband, Perry Halstied; children, Paul Kirby Howard and wife Rebecca and Keisha Halstied; stepchildren, Kevin Halstied, Trudy Halstied, Diana Halstied, Violet Halstied, JoElla Breath, and Karen Willis; brother, Royce Howard and wife Pauline; sister, Jacqueline Carter and husband Danny; grandchildren, D’Vante Howard, Taylor Howard, Alex Aldaba, and A’Jhan Hawkins; great-grandchild, Maćia Howard; 20 step-grandchildren and 26 step-great-grandchildren.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, and stepson Don Overstreet.

Services to celebrate the life of Rebecca will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Eastside Baptist Church with Lawrence Anderson officiating and Rev. Burnis Burrell assisting.

Interment will follow at the Prairieview Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Casket bearers are Rebecca’s cousins, and the New Zion Males. Honorary bearers are Milton Dailey, Delbert Hamilton, Lewis Douglass, Willie Drennon, and Lester Douglass. Flower girls will be stepdaughters and grandchildren.
