Services for Gayland Lee Shaffer, 63, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 24, at the Cornerstone Worship Center, Marietta, with pastor Chris Mauldin and the Rev. Michael Parker officiating.

Interment was in New Hope Cemetery, Marietta. Arrangements were directed by Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.

Born August 25, 1942, in Marietta, the son of Paul Ellery and Elsie Glee Sims Shaffer, he died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at his residence. A resident of Thackerville/Marietta area his entire life, Mr. Shaffer was a retired farmer. He attended school at Thackerville. Mr. Shaffer enjoyed watching television, talking on his CB radio, helping friends and playing with his dog “Monie.”

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Judy Shaffer of Tacoma, Washington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Aleen and Sam Kretzschmar of Lewisville, Texas, and Joan and Floyd Miles of Marietta.    

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Shaffer and Ellery Shaffer; and five sisters, Hilda, Lafaun, Gwen, Hazel and Sharon.

Pallbearers were Ray Grice, Bull Shurbet, Chris Bond, Kenneth Cain, Claude Cain and Donald Cain.
