Floyd Miles, Jr. went to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Floyd was born August 23, 1926, in Conehatta, MS, to Floyd, Sr. and Lessie Lenora (Bryant) Miles. Floyd attended school in Decatur, MS completing the 6th Grade. His mother, Lessie, died when he was nine years old. After a couple of years passed by, his father married Alma Miles.

Floyd's hard work ethic started at a very young age. He successfully passed the G.E.D. test in 1971. He enlisted in the United States Navy on August 6, 1943, in Jackson, MS. He was a World War II Veteran earning the American Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 3 stars and a Victory Ribbon. He was a very patriotic man who was proud of his years of service aboard the USS Schroeder DD-501, a Fletcher Class Destroyer Ship.

On April 29, 1963, he was united in marriage with Joan Shaffer. She was the love of his life and soulmate. They celebrated more than 61 years together.

Floyd was known as a "transmission expert" and equally good at any job requiring an experienced mechanic. He was recognized as the man of the month for Dumas Milner Chevrolet's Service Department in Fort Worth, TX several times. He was a quiet, serious worker who was always dependable. When he retired, he worked as a mechanic in the motor pool for the Ft. Worth Supply Depot at the General Service Administration Federal Center. He also worked for a few privately owned mechanic shops over the years. If it could be fixed, Floyd could fix it! He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, playing his keyboard and switching the beats, gardening, and watching westerns. Floyd could be heard singing in the doctors' offices while waiting to be seen. He was a member of the All Faith Christian Church in Marietta, where he sang and played his guitar. Floyd was a member of the VFW in Gainesville, TX and a member of the Burch Brothers American Legion Post 136 in Marietta.

Floyd was preceded in death by a son, Floyd "Vincent" Miles; four brothers, Owen Miles, Allen Miles, Curtis Miles, and Lester Miles; sister, Mable Warren; stepmother, Alma Miles; and nephews, Duane Carlisle and Chris Bond.

Those left to cherish Floyd's memory are his wife, Joan Miles; son, Mike Miles and wife Kathy; sister, Nell Lancaster; special nieces, Bridget Bond, Kasey Smalling, and Kayla Wyrick; special nephews, Claude Cain and Gary Shaffer; several other nieces and nephews; his "two angels", Tina Renick and Miranda Fincher aka "Mutt & Jeff"; special barber, Carolyn Lopez; special nurse, Becca Thompson; and very special friends, Billy and Jeanne McKinney and their daughters, Mindi Warren and Michelle Barker.

Funeral services, with military honors, for Floyd Miles, Jr., 98, of Marietta will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the All Faith Christian Church, with Rev. Jerry Turner and Bro. Matt Tunnell officiating.

Interment will follow at the Shaffer Family Cemetery in Thackerville, OK.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marietta.

Casket bearers are Winston Warthen, Ray Elliott, Robert Carlile, Bull Shurbet, Matt Tunnell, and Brandon Carlisle. Honorary casket bearers are Woody Alexander, and the members of the Burch Brothers American Legion Post 136 and the members of the All Faith Christian Church.
