(permission granted)

Bobby W. “B.W.” Burkhart left this earth for his Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was born September 25, 1936 in Love County to Worley Bunch and Ruth Burkhart.

He graduated from Thackerville High School in 1955. He moved to Fort Worth, TX where he became a Fort Worth Police Officer in 1960. He left there in 1973 to work for the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Department of Public Safety when the airport was just dirt and concrete. Lieutenant Bob Burkhart retired in 1997 with 37 years in law enforcement.

Bobby met the true love of his life and married Janice Mae (Fyke) Starr on January 16, 1979. They moved back to Love County in 1983 and became ranchers. If you saw one, the other was close by. They enjoyed traveling and attending all sporting events that their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in. It was only recently that he retired from the ranching business.

Bob was known by many names. Friends called him “B.W.” or Bob. Family referred to him as son, brother, husband, Dad, Uncle or PaPa. He didn’t demand respect from any of us -he earned it because of gentleness, leadership capabilities and the wisdom that he shared with others. He never hesitated to share Jesus or Bible scriptures with others.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bunch and Ruth Burkhart, and a sister, Mary.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice Burkhart; children, Kimberly and husband Jerry Killion of Watauga, TX, Jeffrey and wife Kimberley Burkhart of Watauga, Kevin Burkhart of Watauga, and Russell and wife Kristine Starr of Southlake, TX; grandchildren, Ryan Burkhart of North Richland Hills, TX, Kristan and husband Jeremy Phillips of Bluff Dale, TX, William and wife Lindsey Killion of Ft. Worth, Jesse Killion of Watauga, Kelci and husband Corey Wake of Waco, TX, Taylor, Jackson, and Nathan Starr of Southlake; great-grandchildren, Payton Craft, Aubree Phillips of Bluff Dale, Kiley, Johnathan, and Waylon Killion of Ft. Worth; sister, Billie McEntire of Grand Prairie, TX; brother, John and wife Carol Burkhart of Marietta, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services for Bob will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.

Serving as casket bearers are Jeffrey Burkhart, Kevin Burkhart, Russell Starr, Ryan Burkhart, William Killion, Jesse Killion, Jackson Starr, and Nathan Starr. Honorary bearers are the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Baptist Home for Girls, 13976 Anthony Lane, Madill, OK 73446 or Shady Dale Volunteer Fire Department, 15364 Oklahoma 77S, Marietta, OK 73448. They can also be dropped off at the funeral home.
