A funeral mass for Martin Tamez, Jr., 61, of Marietta was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 8 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dowdell officiating.

Interment with military honors followed at Leon Cemetery, Leon.

Born July 9, 1951 in Victoria, Texas, the son of Martin and Narcissa Lerma Tamez, he died Friday, January 4, 2013 at his Marietta residence. His maternal grandparents were Nicanor and Inez Martinez Lerma. His paternal grandparents were Raymundo and Nazaria Borrego all of Victoria. He and the former Denise Bindel were married on July 28, 1997 in Gainesville, Texas and resided in Madill until moving to Ardmore in 1999. After being injured they moved to the Lake Murray area to be close to family. At the age of 12 his family traveled to Oklahoma where they decided to stay in the Courtney area. He attended Turner School and graduated with the class of 1971. Martin joined the United States Air Force after graduation where he served six years. After military service he joined the Michelin workforce where he worked until being injured on the job in February 2008. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Ardmore, Martin enjoyed camping, going to the car races, watching stores and especially OU. He loved his family and spending time with his grandkids. Martin retired after 30 years of service with Michelin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Martin Jacob (M.J.) Tames; and a great-nephew, Rowdy Wayne Hartman.

Survivors include his wife, Denise of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Bobby Lee Moore III of Healdton; a brother, Tony Tamez and wife Pamela Gail of Marietta; four sisters, Inez Halferty and husband Rex of Marietta, Trina Mapp and husband, F.S. of Jimtown, Teresa Hartman and husband Larry and Gloria Davis and husband Lynn, all of Leon; grandchildren, Erik Martin Moore, Roy Jacob (R.J.) Moore and Braelyn Denise Moore; aunts, Theresa Soto and husband Gonzolo and Josephine Lerma, all of Victoria, Cora Lerma of Corpus Christi, Texas and Elvira Lerma of Los Banos, California; five nieces; six nephews, and many great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

We really appreciate our two special cousins Israel and Ramona Tames.

Serving as pallbearers were Roy Hartman, Jr., Martin Charles Hartman, John Anthony Tamez, Michael “Bubba” Tamez, Robert Paul Mapp and Ray Butler. Harvey Douglas Funeral Home This obituary included a picture of Mr. Tamez.
