Simon R "Son" Taliaferro

Services for S.R. "Son" Taliaferro of Marietta were Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Leon Baptist Church.  Officiating were Rev. David Colaw and Bro. Ray Hilliard.

Mr. Taliaferro was born July 2, 1925, at Leon, the son of Dallas E. and Elsie Hartman Taliaferro, and died June 5, 1999, in Marietta at the age of 73. A resident of Love County all of his life, he married Sue Ladner on June 2, 1945, at Jimtown.  Mr. Taliaferro was a foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad for 35 years, until his retirement.  He was a member of the Leon Baptist Church and played sandlot baseball for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sue Taliaferro of the home in Marietta; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Taliaferro of Burneyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Mickey Locke and Karen and Bill Hilton of Marietta and Karla and Luke Dunlap of Arlington, Texas; a brother, Dallas "Boog" Taliaferro of Leon; a sister, Sheliah Freeman of Enid; six grandchildren, Wade, Wendy, Stephanie, Jereme, Justin and Jake; and three great-grandchildren, Lareme, Weston and Jenna.

Mr. Taliaferro was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Assisting as pallbearers were Ott Ladner, Wade Taliaferro, Jereme Hilton, Herb Hartman, Joel Hicks and Jackie Lee Brintle.
