Lt. Sumrall was born July 8, 1932, in Gulfport, Mississippi, the son of Lawrence & Viola Tucker Sumrall, and died January 20, 2000, in Gulfport. A resident of the Gulf Coast for the past 21 years, he retired as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Mississippi Emergency Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, & the Good Conduct Medal 6th Award. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Masonic Lodge, a life member of the D.A.V. & American Legion, and a member of the Paradise Valley Baptist Church of Lawton. He and the former Billye Jeleen Monkres were married in November 1967 in Copper Cove, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jeleen Sumrall of the home in
Gulfport; three daughters, Andra Brown and Sharon Bates of Gulfport,
and Marla Carney of Clinton, North Carolina; two sisters, Mary
Tompkins and Betty Blake of Woolmarket, Mississippi; three brothers,
J.W. Sumrall and Raymond Sumrall of Gulfport, and Leonard Sumrall of
Wiggins, Mississippi; his father and mother-in-law, Thurman and
Hester Monkres of Leon; and five grandchildren.
Lt. Sumrall was preceded in death by his
parents; and a brother, R.B. Sumrall.
Graveside military rites were conducted in the Leon Cemetery by the Ft. Sill Honor Guard, Lawton.
Assisting as pallbearers were nephews, Jimmie Monkres, Jackie Dale Miller, Jaylin Miller, Jaryl Arthur, Derrick Salazar, Timmy Arthur, Jason Conway, Marvin Conway, James Arthur, Jody Salazar & Cody Miller.
Arrangements were under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.

Interment followed in the Leon Cemetery.
Born April 14, 1939, at Leon, the daughter of James Bennett and Hester Leon Pierce Monkres, she died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Ardmore. Jeleen was born and raised at Leon where she attended high school, graduating high school in 1957. After graduation Jeleen continued her education at Iowa State University receiving a degree in business administration. On November 11, 1967 she was united in marriage to Lieutenant Douglas Andrew Sumrall at Copperas Cove, Texas. Doug was career military therefore due to his changes in assignment, they lived in numerous cities. Jeleen was fortunately able to transfer her job due to being a civil service employee. The couple resided in California, Alaska, Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas and retired in Mississippi. After Doug passed away on January 20, 2000 in Mississippi, Jeleen returned home to Oklahoma and has been living in Ardmore since.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
father, Jim; mother, Hester; father who raised her, Thurman Monkres; sisters, Jackie Miller and Joan Arthur; niece, Charla;
and nephews, Jamie and Jaryl.
Survivors include her brother, Pierce Monkres and wife Sandy of
University Park, Texas; nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Josh, Joie,
Paula, Janett, Joni, Jackie Dale and Jay Lynn; numerous great
nieces and nephews; caregiver and nephew, Tim Arthur; and other
family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Terry Pierce, Mike Parker, Marvin Conway, Jimmy Monkres, Jackie Dale Miller, and Tim Arthur.
