Joseph Fred Minton, 88, of Plano, Texas was born August 13, 1932 in Piedmont, Alabama, the son of Fred Oris and Venice Lenora Graham Minton. Joe, who was one of nine children, grew up in Piedmont and was a graduate of Piedmont High School. Joe joined the United States Army National Guard in 1949 at the age of 17. He was activated during the Korean War, one month after he turned 18. When reminiscing about his time in the Army, Joe spoke of guarding the gold at Fort Knox, Kentucky and driving tanks in Barstow, California. After three years of service in the Army, Joe attended two semesters at Jacksonville State University. He also owned his own gas station in Piedmont.

In 1960 Joe moved to Anchorage, Alaska and began his career with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service. Anchorage is also where he met his wife of 57 years, Peggy Jean Petty and they were blessed with three children.

Joe and Peggy were transferred to many different locations over the years. Joe managed service stations at Fort Richardson, Barksdale Air Force Base, Fort Benning, Fort Bragg, and Elemendorf Air Force Base. They were transferred one last time to Fort Ord, California where Joe managed the Car Care Center until he retired after 37 years of service to the United States government. Joe and Peggy then relocated to Fort Worth, Texas where they lived for 22 years before moving to Plano.

Joe enjoyed spending time in his garage, working on cars, and tinkering with things around the house. He was very proud of his children and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at his home, surrounded by love and with his family by his side.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jewel, Bonnie, Alice, and Anna Laura; and brothers, Thomas and Jack.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Minton of the home; son, Joseph "A.J." Fred Minton, Jr. of Dublin, California; daughters, Gwendolyn Sue Minton of Plano and Kimberly Ann Michaelis and husband Joshua of Plano; daughter-in-law, Janay Minto of Dublin; sisters, Frances Timmons of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Catherine Fowler of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren, Jacob Minton of Boise, Idaho, Jared Minton of Tempe, Arizona, and August Michaelis and Ava Michaelis, both of Plano; and many nieces and nephews.
