Interment followed in the Leon Cemetery.
Born July 24, 1923 at Artussee in McIntosh County, the daughter of Fred and Della Helms Guinn, she died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at her home in Edmond.
Mrs. Hicks made her home at Jimtown from 1959 until 2007 when she moved to Edmond to be near family. She and Thurston Hicks were married on December 30, 1949 in Paris, Texas, and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1998.
A true farmer’s wife, Mrs. Hicks loved farming, the outdoors and “her pets,” the animals on the farm – the chickens, ducks, guineas and cows. Her animal pets could do no wrong. She also liked to decorate her home with flowers from her garden. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Leon Church of Christ and later the Marietta Church of Christ. She was active in the Senior Bible Study and also visiting residents at the nursing home. Mrs. Hicks loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She always had a big smile for them.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bud Guinn, Orville Guinn and an infant brother, Herbert Guinn; and a sister, Gertrude Sparks.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Patsy Hicks of Socorro, New Mexico and Joseph and Betty Hicks of Grandview, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jim Marshall of Dallas and Julia and Jim Stephens of Edmond; two brothers, John Guinn of Moore and Jimmy Guinn of Roy, Utah; two sisters, Mina Simmons, also of Moore, and Margie Cummins of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Dewayne Ware, Paul Hicks, Zac Wallace, Scott Marshall, Sean Stephens and Lance Stephens. Honorary bearer was Duane Hicks.
