Services for Eldon “Bud” Davis, 62, were Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Ringling with Rev. Darel Bunch officiating, assisted by Rev. J.W. Ray.

Born April 18, 1930, at Courtney and graduated from Courtney Public Schools in 1948. He worked in the oilfield as a tool pusher for many years both locally and overseas, including in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and South American countries. He was Deputy Assessor in Love County for two years and served as Love County Commissioner District 2 from 1967 to 1970. Mr. Davis married the former Joann P. Coyle on July 2, 1971, at Decatur, Texas. In 1976 they returned from Spain and moved south of Ringling to Center Point where they had made their home since. At the time of his death he was serving as Jefferson County Commissioner, a post he had held since 1986. He was also a member of the Simon Masonic Lodge, served on the Tri-County Nutrition Board, and was a member of the Rubottom Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joann Davis of the home at Center Point; a daughter, Linda Tynes of Rubottom; a son, Lynn Davis of Oswalt; a step-daughter, Vicki Cox of Ringling; two step-sons, Kurt Lester of Ardmore and Mike Lester of Ringling; three sisters, Edith Watkins of Center Point, Lillian Hogue of Ringling, and Lawana Forsythe of Wilson; a brother, Otis Davis of Nocona, Texas; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, a step-grandchild, Chad Reed in July 1991; and two brothers, Stanford Davis in December 1983, and Jim Davis in September 1990.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Alexander Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers were Starriett Watkins, Craig Watkins, Bob Aldridge, Donnie Davis, Jerry Dan Davis, and Ben Forsythe. Honorary bearers were Jefferson County employees.
