Late Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the world lost a very loving and caring person, Debbie June “Sissy Gilbert” Cavener at the age of 61. Her journey in life began in Leon, OK on December 29, 1959, the only girl out of six children born to William and Edna (Miller) Gilbert.

Sissy grew up in Leon and was a 1979 graduate of Turner High School. She married her love, Jeff Cavener on May 6, 2005, in Gainesville, TX. Her love for people and food led her into waitressing. Sissy was a dedicated firefighter’s wife who loved volunteering for community projects, fire department fundraisers, and toy runs. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed going to garage sales, and early in life, she enjoyed camping. Sissy was a very giving and caring person who loved spending time with her family and friends. Although she has many things she enjoyed doing, spoiling her children and grandchildren was her favorite.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband, Jeff Cavener of the home; children, Justin Gilbert of Leon, Missy Tunnell and husband Matt of Marietta, OK, Liz Beavers and husband Barney of Marietta, Michael Rowton of Marietta, Sean Cavener of Lone Grove, OK, Sara Cavener of Dickson, OK, Ashli Cavener of Conroe, TX, Navia Cavener, Carlena Cavener, Maria Cavener, Samarh Cavener all of the home; brothers, Johnny Gilbert of Leon, and Jared Gilbert of Healdton, OK; 22 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Sissy was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest D. “Bo” Gilbert, Darryl “Mack” Gilbert, and Charles “Hambone” Gilbert.

Services to celebrate Sissy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 20, 2021, at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating and Mike Buxton assisting. Interment will follow at the Leon Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.

Casket bearers are Adam Gilbert, Dal Gilbert, Greg Gilbert, Dario Diaz, Jesse Burke, and Timmy Seigler. Honorary bearers are her grandsons, and John Coffey, Larry Vaughn, Truman Hood, and Terry Vernon.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A keepsake video is available through the funeral home.
