She graduated from Ardmore High School and married Jack Clinton Weldon, whom she met at the local soda counter, in 1947. The Weldons lived in many cities throughout Oklahoma with Cynthia working as a beauty school instructor, raising her children, and managing the family’s beauty supply business alongside her husband. The couple settled in Ardmore in 1975. Cynthia and her daughter Lynn operated The Quilt Basket in the 1980’s. Following that, she worked for several years in the office of Ardmore’s J.C Penney, Cynthia served as an Elder at the First Christian Church of Marietta where she was a lifetime member. She was always ready to lend a hand at Lone Grove Elementary School, where her daughter Liz teaches and from which her daughter Emmy retired. Cynthia loved quilting, reading, and animals, especially her dog T-Bone, who brought her endless joy. She was dedicated to her family, never ceasing to provide love and support. Cynthia loved to travel with her family and went to Alaska, Hawaii, and all over the continental United States, often in an RV. Her last trip was to North Carolina in June to attend the high school graduation of her great-granddaughter Ysa. Selfless, caring, generous, and God-loving, Cynthia also had a stubborn streak and a wry sense of humor combined with impeccable grace. She will always remain a role model of strong womanhood for those who knew her.
Survivors include her daughters, Emmy Ellis and Liz Weldon of Ardmore and Lynn Weldon of Edmond; granddaughters, Aimee Ellis (George Nosis) and Kelli Cline (Chris); grandsons, Ryan Gilbert (Jodi) and Jeffrey Gilbert (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Ysabel Gilbert, Monroe Erebout, Gracelyn Gilbert, Jordin Gilbert, Reese Gilbert, and Josslyn Cline; cousin, Leah Bond; nephew, Travis Galt and his children Mary Jane and Margeaux; and niece, Diane Galt (Betsy Kaminski).
