Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Born July 5, 1933 in Bomar, the daughter of V.C. “Bud” and Mary Ann Suggs Powell, she died Monday, February 13, 2017 in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta. A graduate of Thackerville High School, Joyce had been a resident of Love County most of her life. She and Wayne G. Varner were married in Thackerville on March 7, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2002. Joyce retired from Weber Aircraft, Gainesville, Texas, after working in the electronics department for 12 years and then six years as lead in the seatback assembly. Following her retirement, she then was employed part-time in the deli at Homeland for eight years. Joyce loved watching NBA basketball and being with her grandchildren and her dogs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marietta.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Aubrey “Hop” Powell; and two sisters, Ealeen Jones and Velma Trivelpiece.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Varner of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Brent Sykora of Marietta; two brothers and sister-in-law, Buddy and Niki Powell of Thackerville and Nelson “Dude” Powell of Marietta; three sisters and brother-in-law, Claudine Monkres of Thackerville, Ann Faulkenberry of Marietta, and Carolyn and Mike Ryan of Plano, Texas; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Tye, Mallory, Bailey, and Mandy.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert G. Varner, Tye Varner, Brent Sykora, Dale Faulkenberry, Jonathan Powell, and Steve Monkres. Honorary bearers are Alvie Reed and Warner Fellabaum.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 17 at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society – Love County Relay for Life.

Mr. Varner was born October 17, 1935, at Munday, Texas, the son of Adline Elizabeth Stanley and William Earl Varner Sr. He died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his residence in Marietta.
He had been a resident of Love County for the past 25 years. He and Joyce M. Powell were married March 7, 1959, in Marietta. A retired truck driver, Mr. Varner was a member of the Shady Dale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Varner of the home; a son, Robert G. Varner of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Brent Sykora of Marietta; a brother, William Earl Varner Jr. of Blue; a sister, Lillie Mae Hodge of Mead; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Tye, Mallory, Bailey and Mandy.
Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmy Varner and Rob Varner.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Williams, Randall Harris, Ronnie Savage, Ted Freeman, Butch Sykora and David Wayne Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J.T. O’Connor, Pat Owens, Warner Fellabaum, Bobby Perkins and Jerry Cowan.
Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 1514 Meadow Lane, Ardmore, OK 73401.
