Services for S.J. Tipton, 89, a native of Love County, were held Saturday, August 25, in the Calvary Baptist Church, Longview, Texas.

nterment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.

Born June 18, 1918, in Loves Valley, the son of county pioneers Sidney Johnston and Dora Clark Tipton, he died Thursday, August 23, 2007, in a Longview hospital following a lengthy illness.

He and Katherine Wand of Marietta were married June 25, 1939, and she preceded him in death on April 9, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Kay Tekansik and grandson, Jerry Bell of Longview; a sister, Eunice Benton of Bedford, Texas; a sister-in-law, Eloise Tipton of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest Frederick and Clark Tipton; and five sisters, Emma Leeper, Roberta Farris, Mattie McAnally, Pauline Tipton and Lois Ledbetter.
