Graveside services for Edwin Teafatiller, 79, of the Marsden community, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 1, in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with Pastor Claud Williams officiating. 

Born March 8, 1929 at Floydada, Texas, the son of Vernon and Mattie Cook Teafatiller, he died Sunday, October 26, 2008, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. A resident of Love County since 1990, Mr. Teafatiller had previously made his home in California and Texas. He was a 1946 graduate of high school in Morgan Hill, California. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Teafatiller served in the U.S. Marines from January 30, 1951 to January 29, 1954. During his years of service he was honored as an expert rifleman and was awarded the good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He and Carol J. Henderson were married October 16, 1955 in Reno, Nevada. Mr. Teafatiller retired from General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas, as a journeyman machinist. Mr. Teafatiller was a very loving husband and father who especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was active in the Marsden Baptist Church as long as his health permitted, serving as Youth Director, Sunday School teacher and Discipleship Training leader. In addition, he was a volunteer fireman for the Criner Hills Fire Department. Mr. Teafatiller was also recognized as an honorary Girl Scout. He was a member of a bowling league and also enjoyed playing golf, receiving special recognition one year as “Rookie of the Year.” His other hobbies included fishing and football.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol Teafatiller of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Lynn and Billie Teafatiller of Fort Worth; a daughter, Deborah Jean Teafatiller of Hurst, Texas; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville and Ruth Teafatiller of Oregon, Milton and Sharon Teafatiller of Tishomingo, Bill and Cloe Teafatiller of Texas, and Robert and Tanya Teafatiller of Falconhead; two sisters and brother-in-law, Geraldine Driskell of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Betty and Clay Robertson of Marietta; five grandchildren, Sunshine Sierra Allen, Tammy Lynn Teafatiller, Edwin Lee Teafatiller, Tina Mechell Sinclair and Tracy Renee Bevil; and five great-grandchildren, Michael Ballinger, Jordin Dawn Teafatiller, Justyn Kyle Teafatiller, Jaxon Wade Allen and Andrew Ryan Sinclair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Maureen Sierra Teafatiller; a brother, Limuel Lee Teafatiller; and a sister, Wanda Leslie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Allen, Craig Bevil, Michael Ballinger, Richard Sinclair, Edwin Lee Teafatiller, Nick Cooper, Justyn Kyle Teafatiller and Jaxon Wade Allen.

Visitation will be conducted at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday.
