Services for Cecil R. Stubbs, 92, were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 12, in the Hess Baptist Church, Hess, with the Rev. Roy McDaniel officiating. Graveside services followed at 3:30 p.m., at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with the Rev. Stan Idell officiating.
 
Mr. Stubbs was born October 25, 1910, in Clay County, Texas, the son of Edward and Florence Mae (Cope) Stubbs. He died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, Altus.

A longtime area Baptist minister, Mr. Stubbs attended school in Ardmore and continued his education at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He and Mable Stevens were married April 27, 1930, in Ardmore. Mr. Stubbs preached his first sermon at age 17. He farmed until age 30, when he entered the ministry full-time. Mr. Stubbs was a member of Hess Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Elmer.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Ed Youell of Tuttle, Jenetta Brown of Elmer, and Scyglenda Sue and Pete Lander of Arkansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stubbs was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mable in 1998; a son, Howard Lee Stubbs; a granddaughter, Doris Martinez; four brothers and six sisters.
 
Services were under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home, Altus.
