Services for Billie Gene “Bill” Stewart, 87, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 16 in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory, Ardmore with Brother Mike Williams, pastor of the Ringling First Baptist Church officiating.
Interment with military honors followed in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Born March 7, 1929 at Enville, the son of William M. and Beatrice Shaw Stewart, he died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Ardmore Veterans Center following a period of failing health. Bill attended school at McMillan before entering the United States Air Force in 1948. Following his honorable discharge in 1951, he returned to Southern Oklahoma and entered the home construction and contracting business and was a member of the Southern Oklahoma Homebuilders Association.
He and Carolyn Sue Key were married June 22, 1983 at Marietta. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing; spending time at the lake, and being with his family and children. An avid gardener, he did his best to feed all of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Stewart of the home; a son, Tony Stewart and wife Vicki; daughters, Mary Hicks and husband Randy, Christi Ellis, and Tami LaGrone and husband Clay; two brothers, J.T. Stewart and Wendyl Stewart; the mother of his children, Sylvia; grandchildren, Jennifer Robson and husband Matt, Autumn Reed and husband Travis, Ciera Ellis, Jason Fischer and wife Melissa, Abrea LaGrone and Georgia LaGrone; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Bill Bell, Chris Bell, Matt Robson, Logan Robson, Travis Reed and Dale Owen. Honorary bearers were Randy Hicks, Tony Stewart and members of the Southern Oklahoma Homebuilders Association.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Ardmore Veterans Center or Cross Timbers Hospice
