Services with full military honors for Gerald Phillip Scheihing, 78, of Marietta were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the First Baptist Church, Marietta, with Reverend Jason Langley and Bob Grove officiating.

Interment followed in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.

Born June 20, 1940 at St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Ivan W. and Virginia McDermott Scheihing, he died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Ardmore.

Gerald grew up in St. Louis graduating from Southwest High School. Following graduation, he attended the St. Louis University obtaining a bachelor’s degree.

Gerald, a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, served 34 years between the U.S. Army and Oklahoma National Guard as a test pilot. He also retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as the Chief of Aerospace Inspection Pilots. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters, 2 O/S Bars, Sharpshooter Badge, and Parachutist Badge. Gerald spent some time living in Texas, where he married the former Jeannine Taylor in Fort Worth, Texas on June 1, 1973. He and Jeannine have resided in Marietta since 1997. Gerald was a member of the First Baptist Church, Marietta and of the Retired Officers Association (MOAA).

Preceding him in death were his parents; Ivan and Virginia Scheihing; brother, Tom Scheihing; and great-granddaughter, Zoe Raven.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannine; two sons, Justin and wife Allie and David and wife Karen; two daughters, Melrose Ayres and husband Kenneth and Valorie Hays and husband Tom; five grandchildren, Lisa, Trilby, Lexxi, Ian and Alexis; three great-grandchildren, Jonté, Avery, and Gunner; a great-great-grandson, Callum; and special niece, Carol Davis.

Serving as pallbearers were King Martin, Travis Williams, Mark Bond, Randy Martin, Jeff Geninatti, and Kevin Taylor. Honorary bearers were Joe Pete Martin, Jeff McLemore, Bob Grove, James Smithwick, Clinton Holt, Clay Robertson, Reid Schnorrenberg, Boyd Donaldson, Willis Choate, Glenn McCurtain, David Wolfe, Rod Gentry, Charles Gardner, Jeff Black and Paul Riley.
