Services for James E. “Jim” Rose were conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Roland Luelf, pastor, officiating.

Born February 15, 1898, at Sivells Bend, Texas, Mr. Rose died July 11, 1993, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta, at the age of 95. He was the son of James E. and Mary Frances Thorton Rose.

Mr. Rose, a resident of Love County most of his life, was well known and respected in the horse and cattle industry and throughout the rodeo circuit. For his work as a cowboy he was recently honored by the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. Mr. Rose was of the Methodist belief.

He is survived by five nephews, Jimmy Dixon, L.V. Dixon, Bill Riley and Dude Riley of Marietta and Bill Short of Tulsa; two nieces, Rose Goins and Evelyn Williams of Ardmore; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Mr. Rose was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sam Daube, George Baumann, Tom Suddath, Bob Moline, Kent Rizzley, Kent Moore and Stanley Foster. Honorary bearers included Buck Massey, Bud Kemp, Joe Croskell, Joel Walker, Bill Liddell, Clark McEntire, Fred Robertson, Dr. Tom O’Connor, Dr. Vergil Smith and Dr. Stephen Hutchins.
