Born July 29, 1951, at Wilson, Mr. Powers died June 30, 1999, at a residence south of Marietta. He was the son of John L. and Peggy Marie Smith Powers.
A resident of Love County most of his life, he married Nancy Cranmore on December 25, 1971, in Marietta. Mr. Powers was a forklift driver at Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Plant where he worked for the past 24 years.
He formerly served in the National Guard. Mr. Powers was the Captain of the Love County Reserve Deputies for the past 10 years, a member of the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years, a member of the Love County Mule Club and the Emergency Response Team at Uniroyal. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Powers of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Casandra and Jason Barber of Marietta and Evelyn Powers of the home; four brothers, Harlon Powers and Buddy Powers of Gainesville, Texas, and Raymond Powers and John Wayne Powers of Thackerville; and four grandchildren, Taylor Barber, Faith Powers, Cody Barber and Noah Barber.
Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was directed by Kennedy Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Hice, Danny Wilson, Dennis Thurman, Harold Luetkahans, Dennis Baker and Marty Grisham. Honorary bearers were Paul Riley, J.D. Brewer, Paul Lott, Fayrond Balch, the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department and all Love County Reserves.
Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Faith Marie Powers.
The family has requested that donations be made to the Love County Reserves Deputies.
