Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Born August 23, 1922 in Marysville, Texas, the daughter of Herman and Octavia Carter Welch, she died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. Mrs. Porter had been a resident of Love County most of her life. She and Roy W. Porter were married April 23, 1965 in Marietta, and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2008. A homemaker, Mrs. Porter loved to sew. She was a member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church and really enjoyed her church family, especially the Mary Martha Sunday School class.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and McDonald Moore and Norma and James Smithwick, all of Marietta; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Linda and Marshall L. Green of Ardmore; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Michelle Porter of Marietta and the Rev. Sam and Sheryl Porter of Oklahoma City; a brother, T.J. Welch of Marietta; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Virgil Welch; and four sisters, Oneta Rennels, Lola Branch, Clara Conely and Marie Gibbs.
Pallbearers were Ray Elliott, Paul Riley, Bill Hilton, Marion Hilton, Bill Dvorak and Joe Pete Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Tom O’Connor and “The Girls” at Elmbrook.
