Syble Norris was born in Marietta on February 5, 1926, the daughter of John and Ola Flanagan Freeman. She passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta, at the age of 87.

A lifelong resident of this area, Mrs. Norris attended school at Shady Dale and graduated from Marietta High School. She and James A. Norris were married on October 12, 1946, in Gainesville, TX, and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1985. Mrs. Norris enjoyed quilting, gardening, walking and collecting knickknacks. A member of Marietta's Eastside Baptist Church, she loved attending church activities.  

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Buster, Earl, Gene, Doyle, Duke, Leo, Sylvan and Max Freeman; sister, Lillie Burkhart; and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James A. Norris, Jr. and wife, Linda of Seagoville, TX; and a sister, Gladys Spence of Lubbock, TX.
 
Casket bearers are Jesse Kirk, Alvin Freeman, Bill Freeman, Riley Burkhart, Duane Hicks and Bert Tickle. Honorary bearers are Dr. Tom O'Connor, Dr. John Hester, Joyce Kirk, Marjorie Hobbs, Marie Smithwick and the staff and residents of Lake Country Nursing Center.
