Ruth Jane (Pearson)
& Haskell Cruse "Hack" Morgan Tombstone Photo
Lake View Cemetery
Ruth Jane Pearson Morgan was born April 23, 1927, in Cooke County just
across the Red River in the Marysville Community, the daughter of Regina
Moon and Herbert Lee Pearson. She passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, in
Mercy Hospital Ardmore at the age of 90.
Ruth and her family moved in a wagon across Red River to Love County in
the fall of 1927 when she was five months old. She lived in the White
Rose and Thackerville communities throughout her childhood. Ruth started
school at White Rose before there were school buses, and she and her two
older brothers walked a mile to school down a sandy road. She moved to
Thackerville when she was in the sixth grade and graduated from
Thackerville High School in 1945.
This was during World War II when everything from gas to sugar was
rationed. In the fall of 1945, she attended Murray State College in
Tishomingo. Ruth graduated from Murray and worked one more year in the
office of the Registrar. She moved on to Oklahoma A&M College and
graduated in the spring of 1950 with a degree in Business. Ruth received
her Master's Degree from Southeastern State University in 1963. She
attended classes at Central State University, Edmond, North Texas State
University, Denton, and East Central University, Ada. She has been a
long time member of the Oklahoma Education Association, the Oklahoma
Retired Teachers Association, the Love County Teachers Association, and
the National Teachers Association. Ruth has been a member of the Church
of Christ since age 16.
She and her best friend and the love of her life, Haskell Cruce Morgan
were married November 15, 1947, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in
death on January 23, 1999, after 51 years, two months and eight days of
marriage.
After a short stay in Nebraska in 1950, the two of them spent their
careers teaching school in Love County. Ruth taught at Leon,
Thackerville, and retired i 1988 after teaching 35 years in the Turner
School District. A High School teacher, she taught English, was School
Librarian and School Counselor, but her first love was teaching
Business.
During her entire life, she was obsessed with learning new things. After
she retired from teaching, she took courses in Income Tax and Financial
Planning. She was determined that the computer age would not leave her
behind. Ruth spent hours learning new things about the computer. She was
an avid reader and spent much of her time keeping up with U.S. World and
financial events.
Other than being an avid reader, she was a collector. She collected
thousands of recipes, many obituaries, Love County memorabilia,
genealogy, and ladies handkerchiefs of the early nineteenth and
twentieth century.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert
on September 12, 1980, age 85; Gena on April 11, 1995, at the age of 99;
brothers, Gene Lee Jr. July 19, 1935, at age 16, John Thomas November
21, 1975 at age 54, William Henry (Bill) October 12, 2000, at the age of
70; sister-in-law, Nancy Pearson, September 1, 2000; and
daughter-in-law, Angela Gray Morgan, January 28, 1997.
