Graveside services for Herman L. Monkres were held in Lakeview Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Conducting the service were Bud Jones and H.A. Boan.
Born November 6, 1928, at Devol, Mr. Monkres died November 30, 1994, at his residence at Thackerville. He was the son of Horace and Violet Watson Monkres. Mr. Monkres and the former Claudine Powell were married November 16, 1950, at Gainesville, Texas, and they had made their home at Thackerville since 1970. A Christian since the age of 18, Mr. Monkres had led choir and was a teacher. He was a member of the Concord Church of Christ of Woodbine, Texas, for 24 years.
Mr. Monkres served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and had been employed by the Gainesville Foundry for the past 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Claudine Monkres of the home at Thackerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Vickie Monkres of Paris, Texas; two brothers, Elvis Monkres of Thackerville and Eurban Monkres of Claytonville, Texas; and two granddaughters, Shelbie an Sarah Monkres.
Mr. Monkres was preceded in death by a brother, Hurtis Monkres, in 1960.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Monkres, Randy Monkres, Dale Monkres, Hurtis Monkres and Larry Monkres.
