John Dick Michael

The afternoon of Thursday, March 30, 2023, the world lost a fun-loving man, John Dick Michael at the age of 79 surrounded by family at his residence in Marietta, OK. His journey in life began in Loves Valley, OK on April 17, 1943, born to Henry and Vivian (Vaughan) Michael.
 
Dick was a lifelong area resident and graduate of the Marietta High School Class of 1962. He married his high school sweetheart Janet “Jan” Drennan on November 30, 1962 in Marietta. Dick worked for REA for 41 years. Dick was a dedicated and hardworking man. He has been a member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church since October 17, 1996. Dick was on the church’s funeral kitchen crew and maintained the church lawn. He was a board member for the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, and he was the Donation Coordinator for the Madill, OK location. Dick enjoyed woodworking and racing. He was the head mechanic on the Michael Racing Team. Dick loved spending time with his family and friends.
 
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson Atlas Cain; and sisters, Rose Thompson and an infant sister.
 
Left behind to cherish his memory is his bride of 60 years, Jan Michael of the home; sons, Blake Michael and wife Sandy and Dusty Michael and wife Jodi, all of Marietta; daughters, Sherry Bay and husband Mike of Ada, OK, and Katy Pickens and husband Brandon of Madill; grandchildren, MaKinzie Spence and husband Lance, Conner Michael, Lindsey Willis, Lauryn Jenkins, Tanner Cain and wife Ann, Ramsey Maxwell, Kyrah Bay, Rope Freeman, Levi Michael, River Pierce, Madilynn Michael, Gage Pickens, and Bristol Pickens; great-grandchildren, Grant Spence, Thea Spence, Ella Jenkins, Grayson Jenkins, Nova Cain, and Kynzlee Freeman; brother, Jim Michael and wife Fredia of Ardmore, OK; sisters, Joyce Mills and Lavonne Vinson, both of Ardmore; and a host of nieces and nephews.
 
Services to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 3, 2023 at Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Pastor Shane Norton officiating and Greg Duncan assisting. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marietta. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
 
Casket bearers are Bo Dailey, Frank Lornes, Jerry Welch, Greg Hambrick, Greg Duncan, and Stephen Wiese. Honorary bearers are Joe Martin, Paul Riley, and the Connection Sunday School Class.
