Sheriff Clyde McGill Dies of Heart Attack


Sheriff Clyde McGill has served as sheriff of Love County since 1955. He had served as Deputy Sheriff in the Thackerville area for Sheriff Horton Bone for three years before accepting the position of Undersheriff in 1954 when he and his family moved to Marietta. McGill was elected to the office of county sheriff by the people of Love County for eight consecutive terms. He was held in high esteem by the citizens of this county and was respected throughout the area by the officers with whom he worked and the general public.

Sheriff McGill was born in Addington Bend in 1914, graduated from Thackerville High School and was a World War II veteran having served as a combat soldier in several countries in Europe.

Mr. McGill married Miss Willie Mae Bond in 1935 and they are the parents of seven children, all of whom survive. Mr. McGill was a member of the Church of Christ, the Burch Brothers Post of the American Legion, the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Oklahoma Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.
