Interment followed in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Born September 12, 1925, in Schoolton, the son of James Elbert “Bert” and Lillie Ellis Flanagan McGehee, he died Saturday, November 20, 2010, in Southbrook Healthcare, Ardmore.
Mr. McGehee was a resident of Love County most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. On October 25, 1947, he married Lena Geneva Green at Gainesville, Texas. Mr. McGehee was a retired rancher, having cattle, sheep and hogs together with a dairy. In his later years, he worked in the oilfield. He and his wife operated the McGehee Variety Store in Marietta, and he was also a Marietta City Policeman during the 1960’s. Mr. McGehee helped his brother, Rudolph, with his many business endeavors, including harvesting pecans, cattle operations and running a sand plant. He was a member of Marietta’s Church of Christ. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman and was known for his good sense of humor.
Mr. McGehee was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on January 31, 2007; a son, Thomas “Tom” McGehee on September 9, 1993; and two brothers, Rudolph McGehee and Bill McGehee.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennie Lou McGehee of the home; a brother, David McGehee of Marietta; special nephews, Preston McGehee and Paul Ruth and wife Judith; special great-nephews, Gregg McGehee and Christopher Ruth; close family friends, Sally Thacker and Judy and Victoria Talley; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and a host of friends. He is also survived by his very special pets, The Hounds and The Black Beasties.
Pallbearers were Greggory Scott McGehee, Thomas Garrett McGehee, Samuel Briggom McGehee, William Brett McGehee, Preston Alexander McGehee and John Colton McGehee. Honorary bearers were Preston Lloyd McGehee, Preston Harold McGehee, William Darrel McGehee, F.A. “Butch” Shellenberger, Larry Gene Shellenberger, Frank McKay, Fred McKay and Dr. Tom O’Connor.
