Graveside services for Lela Mayes, 94, of Marietta, were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 24, at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with the Rev. Ronnie Harris officiating.

Miss Mayes was born April 9, 1909, at Gunter, Texas, the daughter of William Dewitt and Nora Ellen Davis Mayes. She died Saturday, February 21, 2004, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta.

A resident of Love County all of her life, Miss Mayes operated a housekeeping/laundry service from her home. She also raised several of her nieces and nephews. Miss Mayes was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta.

Survivors include a sister, Irene Dowdy of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Miss Mayes was preceded in death by her father, William Dewitt Mayes in 1945; mother, Nora Ellen Mayes in 1947; five brothers, Bill Mayes, Olie Mayes, Orville Mayes, Jack Mayes and Melvin Mayes; and three sisters, Jessie Hill, Alma Wilson and Myrtle Martin McCue.

Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
