Jim Freeman Hearon Jan 22, 1920 - Aug 5, 2025
Posted by Martha Reddout
Jim Freeman Hearon, 105-year-old former Love County resident, passed
away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family in
College Station, Texas.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at
the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Jim began this life on January 22, 1920, in Rubottom, the son of Walter
C. and Essie V. (Langley) Hearon. He was a proud member of the Choctaw
Nation. Jim lived and worked on the family farm as a young boy. After
graduating high school, Jim married the love of his life, Virginia
Nadine Brintle, on June 14, 1941, at a ceremony in Ardmore. Not long
after, Jim enlisted and served his country in the United States Army
during World War II. When he returned from the service, Jim tried his
hand at farming. He soon decided that farming wasn't going to be for
him, so he moved to Fort Worth, Texas. There he learned the welding
trade and later got into engineering. Jim worked for several years
building packing plants for Armor and Company. After working several
years for someone else, he decided to be his own boss and went into the
motel business. Over the years, Jim owned motels in New Mexico, Kansas,
and Texas.
Jim loved flying and owned two different airplanes. He spent countless
hours in the air. After retirement, he became extremely active with
hobbies such as woodworking, welding, and remodeling. In the 1990s,
while he was well into his 70s, Jim put a metal roof on his home,
cleared five acres of land, and split all the wood for his grandson to
use in his shop.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine; two brothers, George and
Orion; sister, Hazel; infant son, Timmy Dean; and son-in-law, Gary
Melton.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Jimmie Pottberg and
husband Robert of College Station and Ginger Melton of College Station;
sister, Roberta Jo Moore of Euless, Texas; four grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
