Interment with military honors will be held in Lakeview Cemetery.
Born July 14, 1919 at Orr, the son of Cleve and Mary Elizabeth Burt Gay, he died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his residence at Falconhead.
A resident of Love County for the past five years, Mr. Gay had previously made his home in Hughson, California for 56 years. He and Dorothy Lee Thompson were married December 1, 1956 in Carson City, Nevada, and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2005.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Gay served in the U.S. Army with Battery A 57th Field Artillery Battalion from March 5, 1941 to October 16, 1945. He was involved in several battles and campaigns including Ryukyus, Aleutian Island, Eastern Mandates and the Southern Philippines and was awarded various citations such as the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. Following his discharge, Mr. Gay was employed as an orchard contractor and also a fur trapper for many years. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Senior Citizens Nutrition Site, fishing and also working in his garden every day. He especially enjoyed animals and would feed raccoons and other wildlife on this back porch. Mr. Gay attended the Burneyville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gay was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; two stepsons and one stepdaughter.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as bearers will be Brandon Fahland, Ted Davidson, Mitch Davidson and Butch Davidson. Honorary bearers are Anthony Davidson and Gary Huff.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
