Graveside services for Ken Freeman, 71, of Thackerville were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 3 at Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta with Murray McMurray officiating.

Born March 16, 1942, at the family home on Red River, Marietta, the son of Russell and Gertie Thompson Freeman, he died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Plano Medical Center, Plano, Texas.

Mr. Freeman attended Meadowbrook School and graduated from Turner High School in 1960 as salutatorian of the class. He and the former Ms. Mary Smith of Fox were married on June 22, 1963. Ken served his country as a United States Marine. He worked at National Supply in Gainesville, Texas for 23 years, until it closed. He also worked for the Love County Treasurer’s office and retired from Michelin after 13 years where he worked in the mixing department. His hobbies were enjoying his ’57 Chevy, gardening, watching television and just visiting with people.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Loma and Ora Odell Freeman and Virgil and Lila Holt Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith Freeman of the home; a brother, Ted Freeman and wife Betty of Marietta; special nieces, Bonnie Smith, Gequita Tyson and Cassie Smith; other nieces and nephews, Scott, Tracy, Karen, Lil Ernie, Leroy, Jo, David, Mike, Evelyn, Donna, Randy and Ray.

Serving as pallbearers were Ted Freeman, Scott Freeman, Elvis Reed, Earnest Smith, Ray Smith and Billy Smith. Honorary bearers were Charles Freeman, Noah Graham, Bill Dewbre and Mike Cohoon.
