Services for Winston “Merle” Flanagan, 79, of Ardmore were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 14 in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Bro. Kent House officiating. Interment followed in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
 
Born November 28, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Ralph and LaVada Johnson Flanagan, he died Friday, May 10, 2013 at his residence in Ardmore.
 
A 1953 graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Flanagan joined the United States Navy in August of that year and was based in San Diego, California. He served 28 months in Japan and was honorably discharged in August 1957. Merle then lived and worked in Marietta for several years before moving to Ardmore in 1963. He retired from the Ardmore Fire Department as captain after 20 years of employment and then worked 10 years for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. 
 
Merle and Lona Pearl Hilton were married in Loves Valley on September 4, 1954. He had been a member of Ardmore’s Northwest Baptist Church since 1963.
 
Preceding him in death were his parents and a special son-in-law, George Gill.
 
He is survived by his wife, Lona Pearl of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Sandra Flanagan of Ardmore; two daughters, Molinda Annette Ross of Healdton and Marilyn Gill of Ardmore; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
 
Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Flanagan, Billy Roy Hilton, Roger Hilton, Danny Bone, Wayne Vaughn and James Peery. Honorary bearer was Marion Hilton.
