Evelyn Marie (Gillaspy) Colston

Evelyn Marie Colston was born July 17, 1927, at Pike, OK, the daughter of Jessie and Jewel Harper Gillaspy. She passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, in Galveston, TX at the age of 87. A resident of Texas City for the past two years, Evelyn had previously made her home in Marietta. 
 
She and Joe Keith Colston were married in Gainesville, TX on November 16, 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2008. The couple owned and operated Hilltop Grocery in Marietta for many years. Mrs. Colston spent her life making a loving home for her family and friends. She enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, and church singings. Evelyn also loved jokes and laughter. She was a member of Marietta's First Baptist Church. 
 
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Deanne Colston; and two brothers, Altus Gillaspy and Kenneth Gillaspy.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Randall and Martha Colston of Marietta, and Billy Wayne Colston of Mansfield, TX; three daughters, Linda Redden of Texas City, Kathryn Hatcher of Rockdale, TX, and Ginger Bratcher of New Orleans, LA; brother-in-law, Bobby Michael of Marietta; two sisters-in-law, Mary Gillaspy of Marietta and Maxine Colston of Ardmore, OK; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. 
 
Serving as casket bearers will be Richard Dugger, Shane Norton, James Smithwick, Jimmy Williams, Craig Gillaspy, and Kenny Gillaspy.
