Mrs. Clifton was born January 23, 1896, in Morris Chapel, Tennessee, the daughter of Andrew M. and Mary Elizabeth Perkins Meek. She died August 6, 1991, in Elmbrook Nursing Home, Ardmore, at the age of 95. Mrs. Clifton moved to Love County in 1919 with her family. She married Ernest Clifton, son of an early pioneer family, in Love County on December 7, 1922. They made their home in the Bowles Community until 1962 when they moved to Marietta. A homemaker, Mrs. Clifton was active in many community affairs and various Home Extension Clubs. She was also an active member of the Marietta Church of Christ for more than 50 years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest F. and Wanda Clifton of Boulder, Colorado; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Brett Alexander of Ardmore; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Clifton
was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Clifton on October 24,
1971; three sisters and three brothers.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the
Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home.
Serving as bearers were Norman Flanagan, Bill McGehee, Johnny Thompson, Eric Henderson, Rudolph McGehee, and Dr. J.T. O’Connor
