Mrs. Chandler was born March 23, 1903, in Love County, the daughter of O.D. and Annie Gatewood, and died March 26, 1996, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta.
Mrs. Chandler had lived in Marietta for the past 15 years, moving back here from Gainesville, Texas. She was a homemaker and a cook. Mrs. Chandler was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Survivors include a son, Alvin Brown of Evadelle, Texas; a daughter, Helen Carmon of Marietta; a sister, Stella Paley of Burkburnett, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Franklin Brown in 1945 and Dewey Chandler in 1975; a daughter, Surley Brown; three brothers, Bill, Ellis and Sonny Gatewood; three sisters, Mary Mullinghouse, Dora Phillips and Evie Bridges; two grandchildren, Don Carmon on October 27, 1991, and Erline Carmon Williams on July 24, 1992; and a great-granddaughter, Tammy Carmon in March 1996.
Services will be directed by Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery.
