Services for Geraldine Barnes, 74, of Marietta, were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 3, at Marietta’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating and Bro. Jimmy May assisting.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta. Arrangements were directed by Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.

Born June 24, 1930, in Stillwater, the daughter of Fred and Luvicy Hudson Hughes, she died Monday, February 28, 2005, at Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.

She had been a resident of Love County since 1984, previously living in the Midwest City/Del City area from 1952 to 1983. Mrs. Barnes is a 1948 graduate of Stillwater High School. She and Verne A. “Bud” Barnes were married August 20, 1949, in Stillwater. Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and an active member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed traveling, painting and visiting family. Mrs. Barnes also sang with Midwest and Del City Singers and performed in local theater productions.

Survivors include her husband, Verne A. “Bud” Barnes of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Verne A. Jr. and Debbie Barnes of Parrish, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Boyd Donaldson of Marietta and Kathie and Rick Marsh of Littleton, Colorado; four sisters, Bertha Howell, Vivian Hamlin, Betty Grissom and Ellen Berry; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; four brothers; and an infant son.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ladies Fellowship Class of Marietta’s First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice in care of the funeral home.
