On Thursday, September 23, 2021 the world lost a fun-loving man who touched the lives of so many people, Leonard Truman "Shorty" Adams, 84. His journey in life began in Gainesville, Texas on January 30, 1937, the oldest of the two children of Leonard Martin "Cap" and Clara Mae Jackson Adams.

Leonard was a lifelong area resident and a 1957 Thackerville High School graduate.

He was a hardworking man who spent a lifetime in home construction as a carpenter and approximately 20 years as an assembler at Weber Aircraft.

Leonard was not one to sit at home, so he decided it was time for a third career adventure when he went to work at WinStar. Even in his 60's, he would work circles around some of the younger generation. Leonard had a knack for encouraging others to work hard and to make it fun while doing it.

Leonard wasn't a man to stand idly by. When he wasn't busy working, he enjoyed being outside, woodworking, fishing, gardening, growing tomatoes, and tending to his bees. Leonard was known to work hard and play even harder. He enjoyed gambling and eating crab legs. He was known for his crazy sense of humor and love for his family and friends.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tammy Sprouse of Thackerville and Rita Shampine and husband Doug of Alba, Texas; brother-in-law, Thomas Kidd and niece, Shawna Kidd, both of Gainesville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Cap and Clara Adams; son, Timmy Adams; daughter, Penny Adams; sister, Linda Kidd; and nephew, Dewayne Kidd.

Graveside services for Leonard will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 1 at the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
