Interment will follow in the Jimtown Cemetery.
Born November 10, 1933 at Bishop Bottom in the Jimtown Community of Love County, the son of Gerald Nolen and Minnie Marie Blakley Hicks, he died Monday, November 7, 2016 in the Cottonwood Creek Healthcare Community in Richardson, Texas. Nolen graduated from Burneyville High School, Class of 1951, and then moved to Irving, Texas where he was employed as a route salesman for Canteen Corporation. He married Betty Joyce Rawlins in 1957. A very devout church member, Nolen taught Sunday School, was a music director, and served on many church boards in addition to serving on the Executive Board of the Texas Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed singing and was a self-taught pianist. The couple retired and returned to Love County 16 years ago to make their home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Manuel Hicks; and sister Geraldine Gorley.
Survivors include his wife Betty of Richardson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randell and Sandra Hicks of Irving and Gerald and Sandra Hicks of McKinney, Texas; three brothers, Marion O. and Vonqueta Hicks of Jimtown, Joel N. and Sandy Hicks of Leon, and Dewey D. and Donna Hicks, also of Jimtown; five grandchildren, Lindsay Hicks, Bethany Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Ryan Hicks and Rachel Lee; and a great-grandson Crander Lee.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Hicks, Allen Hicks, Danny Hicks, Thomas Hicks, Brandon Hicks, and Ryan Hicks. Honorary bearers are Nolen Wayne Hicks, Duane Hicks, Wanda Miller, and Buford Rackley.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
