Bill Kirtley

Bill Kirtley
September 03, 1952 ~ August 17, 2020

Bill Kirtley of Pauls Valley, OK passed away August 17, 2020 at the age of 67.

Bill was born September 3, 1952 in Pineville, Louisiana. He was a devoted husband and married Vicki Perkins in 1986 in Norman, OK. Bill and Vicki just celebrated thirty-six years together in marriage. Billís love of his family, music, and his Chickasaw heritage were central to his life.

Billís family was his greatest source of joy and strength. He was always there for anyone that needed help. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a beloved grandfather. One of his favorite pastimes was being at the lake with Vicki and family.

Bill was a talented musician and songwriter who played the guitar, piano, and sang lead in numerous bands. He lived in Pacifica, CA in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1980s with his band, including his wife Vicki who was the lead singer. He continued to play music throughout his life and was last on stage this past October at the annual Moundville Native American Festival in Moundville, AL.

Bill was proud of his Chickasaw heritage and a member of Chickasha Hithla, a Chickasaw dance troupe that travels around the country demonstrating traditional stomp dances. He inspired countless individuals to learn more about indigenous history and culture. Through his leadership and dedication, he was instrumental in reopening a traditional stomp ground called Kullihoma just outside Ada, OK. He had an infectious passion for history and was known as a great teacher.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Kirtley and Catherine Jeane Marie Severns; two sisters Shelli Barbour and Treva Kirtley; mother-in-law Clowan Perkins; and sister-in-law Cathy Perkins.

His surviving family include his wife Vicki; his children, Kristina Kirtley and her husband Phil Crain of South Orange, NJ; Colton Kirtley of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Melia and Wesley Crain; sister Dava Chrisco; stepfather Frank Severns; father-in-law Edward Perkins; brother-in-law Jeff Perkins; nephew Dylan Perkins and other extended family and friends.

A memorial service is to be announced at a later date.

Services for cremation are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
