Died: November 13, 2010

Gurnie LeDrew Franklin III, 54, of Guthrie, OK passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born July 12, 1956 in Columbia, MO, the son of Gurnie Franklin Jr. and Minnie Franklin.

Gurnie graduated from Guthrie High School in 1974. After graduation he pursued an education in the medical field at Baptist Memorial and received his certification in radiology/x-ray. He worked as a radiology technologist in numerous state hospitals across the country including Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, Maryland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Nevada, and Washington.

He was a member of the Church of Living God, Temple #86 while in Guthrie. He made sure he found a church to attend, regardless of the city or state where he lived. He was a very loving, caring, and sharing person who liked to travel, write poems, laugh, have fun, and wear nice clothes.

His love was for his family with much interest in his nieces and nephews, always encouraging them to pursue an education. He was supportive, proud of their accomplishments, and never hesitated to share his checkbook. He was always willing to help someone and never gave it a second thought. Gurnie was a very faithful person who loved the Lord and always trusted in His word.

Survivors include his father Gurnie of the home; four sisters Shirley Griffin (Malcolm) of Jefferson City, MO, Brenda Smith (Glenn Brannon) and Linda Jordan (Shelly Williams) of Oklahoma City, and Lois Franklin (Harvey Braggs) of Guthrie; five brothers Albert Jordan (Carol) and Robert Franklin of Guthrie, Carl Franklin (Thelma) of Milwaukee, WI, Ronald Franklin (Regina) of Jefferson City, MO, and Bary Franklin (Christina Bonaparte) of Columbia, MO; four aunts Mary E. Turner, Lillie Thompson, and Nettie Jordan of Columbia, MO and Dorothy Davis of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gurnie was preceded in death by his mother, one brother Harold Dean Jordan, one sister Alice Louise Jordan, two aunts Mattie Williams and Amanda Sullivan, two uncles David Jordan and Herbert Jordan, paternal grandparents Gurnie and Josephine Franklin, and maternal grandparents David and Ora Jordan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Church of Living God, Temple #86 in Guthrie with Elder Bobby Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Meridian, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be Friday 9:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
