Stacey Leanne Winters passed away August 4, 2012, in Perkins, Oklahoma. She was born May 1, 1971, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Leanne and Eddie Winters of Guthrie. Stacey was baptized in 1981 and was a member of Noble Avenue Baptist Church.

Stacey graduated from Guthrie High School in 1989 as a National Merit Scholar and later from Oklahoma State University College of Education earning a Bachelor's Degree. She also taught in the English Department at OSU while earning her Master's Degree.

She began teaching at Perkins-Tryon High School in 2000, receiving her National Board Certification while teaching. Stacey's gift and love of teaching inspired her students to strive for excellence in their education and to believe in themselves.

Stacey participated in many projects at the school, including serving as Student Council sponsor and as a member and chair for many committees and clubs. In addition to teaching English, Stacey taught Creative Writing, Learn and Serve, and Film as Literature at different times throughout her time with Perkins-Tryon. She made personal donations to the school library, as books and reading were her passion and first love. Stacey also participated in the annual "Empty Bowls Night", which raised funds for the Mission of Hope Shelter. She is and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Stacey is preceded in death by her father, Eddie Winters, her maternal grandparents Fern and Arthur Sneed, her paternal grandparents Maude and Anthony Gibson, and her uncle Cecil Mize. She is survived by her mother Leanne Winters of Guthrie, her sister Sheila Channel, her aunts and uncles Sharon and Larry Fordyce, Lanette Mize, Jari and Steve Burke, and Nancy and Richard Romine. Also by her cousins Bill, Jason, Michael, Shelly, Barry, Garry, Amanda, Stephanie, Kitura, Brooke, and Whitney. She was also the proud aunt of Hilary and Mandy.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Summit View Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Noble Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Stevens officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perkins-Tryon High School Library and Media Center to continue the advancement of excellence in education in Stacey's honor.
