Melvin Lee Taylor, Sr.
January 28, 1930 - July 12, 2016

Graveside funeral services for Melvin Lee Taylor Sr., 86, of Guthrie, OK, will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, with Brother Brian Calloway officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

Melvin was born January 28, 1930 in Guthrie to George and LV (Fowler) Taylor. He died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Guthrie.

Melvin was married on Valentine’s Day 1948 to Georgia Leniger. That union produced three children: Melvin, Jr., Lynda, and Jerry.

Melvin is survived by his three children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Georgia, his second wife, Lora (Holzer), and three grandchildren.

Melvin was a wonderful story teller with a sense of humor that was legendary. Most of his working life was spent driving trucks (he worked 18 years for Oklahoma Furniture until the Guthrie manufacturing plant closed). He finished his working career at the Guthrie Station of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. In retirement the stories continued, Melvin concentrated on his lawn, the envy of the neighborhood and then moved on to help others with or without their help.

Closed casket visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
