Graveside memorial services for Wayne Woodrow Murphy, 91, of Guthrie, OK, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

Wayne Woodrow Murphy was born on June 6, 1926 to Ora E. and Bessie (Dick) Murphy in Mulhall, Oklahoma. He attended public school in Mulhall and helped his family on their farm.

Wayne entered military service on January 19, 1952 and served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until January 18, 1956. He was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. During his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal, and was honorably discharged on December 30, 1959.

He married Dessa Miriam Hancock of Mesa, Arizona on March 22, 1953 in Socorro County, New Mexico. Wayneworked for many years with theSante Fe Railroad Company where he retired in 1988. He enjoyed playing guitar, relaxing at the lake, and dancing at the Guthrie and Oklahoma City VFW's.


He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Vera Dunn Dick, and is survived by his sister Elladean Winnof Guthrie. He is also survived by three nephews: Robert Dunn of Guthrie, Larry Dunn of Moore, and Gary Winn of Guthrie; four nieces: Eileen Kephart of Harrison, Arkansas, DelnaElston of Bellevue, Washington, Sharon Jestes of Richardson, Texas and Linda Winn of Edmond, Oklahoma as well as seventeen great nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.
