Jo Ann Meaders

Born: August 19, 1942
Died: November 04, 2009

Jo Ann Harraman Meaders, age 67, loving and beautiful wife, mother and grandmother, left this life on November 4, 2009. She was born on August 19, 1942 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Roy and Beulah Harraman and was a 1960 graduate of Guthrie High School.

Jo Ann married David Meaders in August 1960 and they enjoyed forty-nine happy years together. David’s military career first moved the couple from Guthrie to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where their daughter Julie was born in 1961. Their son Scott was born in Guthrie in 1966 while David was serving in Korea. Jo Ann was a devoted army wife as David’s military career moved the family to many states, as well as Germany. She raised her children with great devotion, often as a single parent while David was on assignment overseas.

The family settled in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1977 where Jo Ann began a long career as the administrative assistant for the Comanche County Commissioners. Following retirement, she and David moved back to Guthrie in 2005 living next to and enjoying the Cimarron National Golf Course. In addition to golf, Jo Ann was an exceptional quilter and accomplished cook.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband David; daughter Julie Meaders Delluomo of Oklahoma City, OK; son Scott Meaders of Lawton; grandchildren Daniel, Chris, and Nick Delluomo of Oklahoma City, and Juliana and Mathew Meaders of Lawton; brother Gene Harraman and his wife Bertha of Guthrie; brother Fred Harraman and his wife Candice of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jo Ann took great pride in caring for and raising her children and grandchildren. Her sensitivity to their and David’s needs, as well as the trials and celebrations of all she met, was her legacy and it will always be cherished.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
