Mabel Maxine McCain


Born: March 12, 1920
Died: November 21, 2008

Mabel Sparkman McCain of Guthrie, OK passed away at the age of 88 on November 21, 2008. She was born March 12, 1920 in Marshall, OK to Charles and Ona Cross. She taught school in the Cashion and Guthrie School Districts for 30 years. She was a past president of Guthrie Classroom Teachers, board member of Oklahoma Education Association, Logan County Teachers Association member, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She represented the Guthrie Classroom Teachers at the state convention as “Teacher of the Year”. She also received the Masonic Teachers Award. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Sparkman and second husband, Marion “Bill” McCain, two sisters Iris Hudson and Iona Gravett Guilford, and one nephew Charles Gravett. She is survived by three nieces Anita Tackett, Glenna Calvert, and Madonna Huston, one nephew Joe Gravett, one son Steve Sparkman and wife Cheryl, one grandson Michael, and one great-grandson Melvin Sparkman. Graveside memorial services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Summit View Cemetery. Her friends and relatives are invited to attend and share in this remembrance. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
