Dorothy Violet Hayes passed away at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie on August 23, 2003. Services for Hayes, age 87, of Guthrie will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the West Guthrie United Methodist Church under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Reverend Roger Pitt to officiate the service. Burial location for Hayes will be at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma
Hayes was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on July 5, 1916 to the proud parents of Ernest Morris and Bertha "Payton" Morris.
Hayes moved back to Guthrie from Duncan, Oklahoma in 1953. Dorothy was Credit Manager for Lintz Department Store for over 20 years. Hayes was a member of West Guthrie United Methodist Church, the Meridian Farm Women's Club, Anna Lee Circle of West Methodist Church and a member of Logan County Democratic Women. She loved cooking, gardening and canning and chasing her grandchildren.
Dorothy Hayes was married on November 25, 1933 to T. P. Hayes in Chandler, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2000.
Survivors are daughter, Barbra Balley and Husband Tom of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Lee Roy Hall of Duncan, Oklahoma, who was like a son, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, several cousins including Paul Morris, Glen Waggoner, Melvin Payton and Marcia Scott and many other relatives and friends.
Hayes was preceded in death by her parents and husband, two sons, Jerry Pat Hayes and John Ernest Hayes.
Friends and relatives may call the funeral home on Tuesday, August 26 from 8:30 a.m. until 8;30 p.m. Memorials can be submitted to West Guthrie United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society.
