Michael Albert Harvey

Born: July 12, 1951
Died: March 05, 2012

Michael "Mike" Albert Harvey flew home with the angels on March 5, 2012. He was born July 12, 1951 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Albert M. “Cotton” Harvey and Helen Faye Harvey Paschall. Mike graduated from Guthrie High School in 1969 after which he started work at General Electric. In 1970 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Rosebeary. In 1973 he opened a hobby shop in his grandfather’s building; later that year he moved his shop uptown to be included when he opened the first Radio Shack in Guthrie.

On October 5, 1973, Mike became a new dad to Michael Brandon Harvey, bouncing baby boy. Mike changed careers in 1975 to residential remodeling and painting. Attending the Oklahoma School of Photography in 1976 where he graduated with a degree, he started shooting portraits and weddings in the natural surroundings of Guthrie and of course many, many children involved in sports. He then opened his first studio within the walls of his grandfather’s building. In 1981 Mike and his family became members of the United Presbyterian Church in Guthrie. He had the opportunity to further his career with employment at the Federal Aviation Administration in 1987 where he became their photographer in a variety of scenarios that led to travel, studio work and lab processing. In 1996 he opened his second studio where he worked with his son, Michael. He was currently working as an instructor at the Oklahoma School of Photography where he learned his trade many years before.

Mike was an active person of many interests including archery, golfing, hunting, fishing, music, private licensed pilot, remote control air planes, motorcycles, taking trips with family and obviously taking many, many photographs. He spent many hours coaching/supporting his son as a child and now his grandsons in their sports and other interests.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 42+ years, Mary; his son, Michael B. Harvey and wife, Julie, of Guthrie; 3 grandsons, Brennan, Mason and Casey; 2 Brothers, Quin Harvey and Lee Harvey and wife, Lynne, of Guthrie; 1 sister, Stacy Harvey Bristow and husband, Brent, of Texas; nephews, Brian and wife Reanell, Matt, Chris, Marvin and Tim; nieces, Margo and husband, Sean and Holly and Justin and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2012 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen of Companion Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
