Ruby Ella Gibson
Born: October 08, 1913
Died: February 16, 2009

Ruby Ella Gibson was born October 8, 1913 in Lamar, Arkansas. Ruby was one of six children born to Jess and Judy Owen. Throughout most of their lives all six children lived in the Guthrie, Oklahoma area. Ruby married Gordon Gibson in 1930, and they lived all of their married life just west of Guthrie. Gordon passed away in 1997 and Ruby remained on the farm until 2007. She resided at Golden Age Nursing Home at the time of her death.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Mary Lois Maupin and husband Jim of Guthrie; her son Gordon Wayne "Speedy" Gibson and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Anita Morgan, Bobby Maupin, and Sarah Foster; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby is also survived by one brother, W.A. Owen who lives east of Guthrie. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, one brother, and one grandson.

Ruby was a homemaker most of her life but was also a well-known wallpaper hanger who papered many homes in the Guthrie area. Ruby was active in the Iron Mound Home Demonstration Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life-long member of Harmony Community Church and taught Sunday School for more than forty years.

She was an excellent cook whose recipe book was kept in her head. Homemade cookies or some of her prize winning cinnamon rolls were always on hand for those who might drop by.

Ruby was a loving, caring wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was loved by those she met. She enjoyed life, worked hard, helped others, and never complained. Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and many friends in the Guthrie area.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Age Nursing Home and Companion Hospice for their loving care.

Funeral services will be under the arrangement of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2009 at First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor David Nolen and Pastor Tom Walsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her six Owen nephews, Billy, Phillip, Dale, Gene, Frankie, and Randy.
